Celebrating the life of

Charlotte Morris Hughey

February 24, 1940 - October 15, 2023

Charlotte Morris Hughey

On October 15, 2023, Charlotte Morris Hughey of Savannah was called home at the age of 83. Born in Delmar, Maryland to George Francis Morris and Nellie Littleton Morris.

She grew up in Baltimore, Maryland with her parents and two older brothers, Charles Robert and Francis Lynn. A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, she exemplified the spirit of always continuing to learn. She attended college in her forties and earned her bachelor’s degree at National College of Education in four years while working full time in human resources and raising her family. She went on to have a long career in the financial services working for William Blair. Charlotte was an avid reader, mahjongg player, and devoted miniaturist. She enjoyed crafting of all kinds, including making jewelry and knitting. She was also active in the PEO Chapter at Savannah on Skidaway Island. Charlotte had a wicked sense of humor that (most of) her family appreciated. She loved entertaining and hosted an annual holiday party, her home adorned with beautifully decorated Christmas trees, where she served homemade holiday cookies. She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

She is pre-deceased by her husband of sixty years, Daniel Richard Hughey, her parents and brother, Robert. Charlotte is survived by her brother Francis, sister-in-law Linda Sue; daughters Lisa Danielle Hughey-Underwood and Charlotte Ann Caldwell Hughey; son-in-law, James R. Underwood; and grandchildren, Ross Daniel Underwood, Kyle William Underwood, and Rachel Margaret Underwood.

There will be a Celebration of Life in Savannah at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on November 18, 2023 at 11 am. There will also be a family memorial service at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, Delaware on Friday October 27th.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to: St. Peter's Episcopal Church 3 Westridge Road Savannah, GA 31411 Or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105
